Student performance across Texas continues to show troubling declines, underscoring the vital role tutors play in keeping students on track academically.

In its latest report, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) revealed that Austin ISD earned a “C” rating for the 2022–23 school year, a drop from the “B” the district received the previous year. These ratings, delayed due to a lawsuit, were released in April 2025 (Texas Education Agency, April 2025).
RRISD Having Issues Too
Wow—only 43% of RRISD students scored "approaches grade level" or higher on 7th grade math in 2025, down from 51% in 2024, while the state average for 2025 was 52%.
The decline mirrors broader statewide challenges. According to Community Impact, only 43% of Texas students met grade-level standards in math in 2023, compared to 50% in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic (Community Impact, 2025).

Experts point to long-standing issues in math education—such as limited teacher training and a lack of early intervention for struggling students—that were only made worse by the pandemic.
For families, this data highlights an important truth: while district and state averages decline, consistent tutoring offers students personalized support, accountability, and progress. Tutors help fill instructional gaps, build confidence, and ensure that students aren’t left behind in a system still recovering from years of disruption.
